Destination Wedding | Curacao Wedding

Being invited to document a client's most intimate wedding moments is beyond flattering, except when a friend invites you to shoot their nuptials --- then it becomes pure bliss. My dear friends were married on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Curacao in April. After 4 days of playing in the sand, alongside a chummy bunch of friends and family (don't forget Granny, who traveled all the way from Maryland!), the lovely couple had a beautiful, intimate ceremony on the beach followed by a reception just steps away from the water.

Ashani and Fredy's Wedding/ New York City Wedding Photographer

So I'm a little behind with my posts since the Mfuko's tied the knot back on March 20th and here I am blogging about it nearly five months later! Thanks for reading... Ashani was another gift from my days as Dean of Students at a Harlem charter school; we met about two years ago when I was searching for a professional dance instructor to teach some of my students to stepThis was not a difficult feat having been in the thriving Harlem marketplace. The bottom line, though, was that Ashani was a cut above the rest since she owns her own dance staffing agency, Kiner Enterprises Inc. and is a professional dancer herself. When I was doing a ton of free photography projects last year she willingly offered her beautiful face for some headshots and portraits. That lead to engagement pictures of her and Fredy, then her fiance, who is also an entrepreneur. Fredy owns MIssion 101 Media, a marketing agency for artists. I always tell people that good looking subjects make my job easier because they have a head start in the beauty department. Thank goodness both Fredy and Ashani are extremely photogenic, beautiful and camera friendly which is why I was flattered when they asked me to shoot their NYC wedding on March 20th. It had been chilly outside the week before the wedding so we were all a little worried, but low and behold, the day turned out to be 70 degrees and sunny. Fredy and Ashani were married at First Baptiste Church on the Upper West Side and then traveled to Central Park for portraits, which was followed by a luncheon at Seven’s Turkish Grill, also on the Upper West Side. The food was phenomenal as was the service. The Mfuko’s are a stunning couple with a bright future. I can only hope they will continue to allow me to document their lives as husband and wife.
